BRAKE PADS

The well-known brake pads of EBC can be fitted to the MGF as well. They do three types of pads:

EBC Greenstuff Roadsport Compound

These pads are suitable for all fast road applications including hot hatches and fast sedans.
This pad features a high Kevlar content formulation resulting in an ultra high performance road pad which is extremely kind to discs. With a friction co-efficient of around 0.46µ and high resistance to brake fade (550º C) this pad is a superb upgrade for high performance street cars, high speed freeway use and consecutive heavy braking. Greenstuff has won many awards from UK magazines, and was rated #1 fast road car brakes by UK's largest circulation motorsport magazine, Max Power, in 1999.

Features and Benefits of Greenstuff:
- upgrades brake performance by 30-50%,
- friction co-efficient of 0.46µ
- excellent initial bite resulting in instant response
- no warm-up needed class-leading fade resistance on the street - heat stable to a blistering 550ºC
- extremely low disc abrasion
- due to high Kevlar content low dust formula, great for alloys
due to zero carbon content
- low vibration - smooth operation

Brown & Gammons: £ 39.99 for a set for the front
and £ 39.99 for a set for the rear
Mike Satur: £ 34.00 for a set for the front or the rear

EBC Redstuff Semi-metallic Compound

By EBC described as "The Ideal Track Days Pads, suitable for light to medium race applications, fast road usage by heavier cars and track day use.
EBC's semi-metallic Redstuff formulation is a true asphalt race pad with medium lifetime and a friction level of about 0.3µ steadily rising to 0.33µ at 750ºC. Redstuff is very kind to brake discs and can be used on highway vehicles for extreme duty use as well as on race cars. Redstuff gives longer pad life under extreme road conditions

Features and Benefits of Redstuff:
- friction co-efficient starting at 0.3µ and rising to 0.33µ once warm
- medium initial bite with friction steadily increasing with heat
- heat stable to an incredible 750ºC
- low disc abrasion

Brown & Gammons: £ 69.98 for a set for the front

Although I don't know if the following pads are available for the F, I'll add them to make the EBC family complete.

EBC Yellowstuff Full-Race Compound

By EBC described as "suitable for heavier race and rally cars, touring cars and endurance race cars (not for highway use)" Yellowstuff is EBC's longest lasting full race compound, again exhibiting zero brake disc damage. Yellowstuff has an average friction level of 0.34µ delivering awesome stopping power right up to 900ºC. Yellowstuff was rated best race car brakes by UK's largest circulation motorsport magazine, Max Power, in 1999.

Features and Benefits of Yellowstuff:
- average friction co-efficient of 0.34µ
- highest pad life of the EBC range
- heat stable to 900ºC
- low disc abrasion

Brown and Gammons are also offering the following brake pads, but I could find much info about them:
- EBC front brake pads, Street Kevlar: made from Space Age Dupont Kevlar material, will stop you faster. Suitable for normal use. (£ 29.99 for a set)
- EBC rear brake pads, Street Kevlar: made from Space Age Dupont Kevlar material, will stop you faster. Suitable for normal use. (£ 29.99 for a set)

From several reports, I could conclude that the EBC greenstuff pads are excellent for road use, proving you slightly better stopping power and (very impressive) less brake dust on the alloys. On the otherhand, they wear rather fast causing a lot of brake dust when used in race applications.
The greenstuff perform better when used in combination with EBC Turbo grooved discs or the Rover Motorsport brake discs.

Mike Satur has probably the same pads available:
- Kevlar front brake pads, black for road use. (£ 28.00 for a set)
- Kevlar rear brake pads, black for road use. (£ 28.00 for a set)
and some other brake pads:
- FX Motorsport front road pads. (£ 34.00 for a set)
- FX Motorsport rear road pads. (£ 34.00 for a set)

New from Mike are the SBS Ceramic brake pads.

They are available for the AP calipers (found on the MGF Trophy and the MGTF's):
- for street and track use (disc temp up to 1022° F): ceramic technology pads (£98.46 plus vat).
- for race use (disc temp to 1292° F): carbon-ceramic technology (price still unknown).

Mintex 1144
In comparision with the EBC greenstuffs, these pads are audible when braking at very low speeds. The 1144 is a refernce to the material used, M1144. M1144 is mainly used for fast road use and is primarily targeted at hot hatch drivers. .

Description and Characteristics
- Nominal µ0.45
- Asbestos Free Competition Pad
M1144 is a low metallic conventional resin-bonded material in which steel and acrylic fibres have been used to replace asbestos. M1144 is the A/F version of M171, (regarding as the standard across a wide range of events, while remaining suitable for heavy duty road use). It maintains a constant friction level over a wide range of temperature. M1144 has the advantage of a high cold friction which eliminates the dead feel on first application. As with M171, there is the possibility of some harshness in normal road use.

Mike Satur sells these pads in two variations:
MGF, non Trophy: front: £68.00 (ex. VAT)
Trophy, TF (AP calipers): £54.00 (ex. VAT)

These pads competition compound pads are available for the Trophy and TF models equipped with AP calipers. Mike Satur is selling a set of these for £60.00 + VATi

Mintex 1155
Mintex says: "The three materials M1155, M1166 and M1177 are specifically for circuit and rally competition use only."

Mike Satur sells these pads:
front: £69.00 (ex. VAT); rear: £80.00 (ex. VAT)

Mintex 1177
These pads are (a bit) noisy, squeaking when braking but are the 'stuff' to go for if real stopping power is needed. They are also available through Rover Motorsport, making them legal for hillclimbs, sprints, etc. Allthough some F-ers are using them on their daily cars, Mintex state that they are only suitable for circuit and rally competition only."

Mike Satur's aluminium and titanium 4 pot calipers
"Now available, after some extensive development our own aluminium and titanium 4 pot calipers, anodised red for striking looks and corrosion protection, titanium for the pistons was chosen over stainless for lightness. To fit these calipers we will supply them with :- 2x 280mm discs, set of stainless hoses, brake pads as a complete kit at £540.00 plus vat. Limited stocks only." (Mike Saturs website)

AP 4 pot calipers
The MGF LE Trophy 160 had them standard and later on they became standard equipment on the TF160 and every TF that had the Sports Pack 2 option. They are a no go together with the 15" wheels and not every 16" wheel can be fitted when these calipers are in place. If you're looking for the best stopping performance and you've got TF160, Trophy or another set of wheels that can host these beauties, they are worth considiring.
