M O D I F I C A T I O N S :  Airfilters -- Vader (Mike Satur)

As our MGF had very unstable idle revs (with the PTP 165) and as PTP Ltd. do recommend the ITG Maxogen airfilter. I ordered Mike Satur's Vader induction kit to replace the K&N 57i.... Who have thought that I would switch to an airfilter with a less attractive sound track ? Well, people ordering and fitting this kind of airfilter (Vader, ITG, Taipan, ....) are looking for the ultimate performance gain. And let's face it, it would be a real shame if they don't perform better than an open airfilter as they are far more expensive.

The Vader filter comes with an alloy flexible tubing, which needs to be directed to the side air inlet, a nice 'carbon' filter housing, two silicon hoses (1 straight, 1 90° elbow), three jubilee rings and a bracket to fasten the airfilter in its place.

Lead the flexi pipe to the side air inlet. Keeping it under the car could be easier, but can be dangerous when going through a puddle of water. This airfilter setup will suck through the pipe, while the K&N or every other open airfilter will suck air around the airfilter, hopefully fresh air pushed through the pipe(s). Once the flexi pipe is located in the side air vent, I painted it black to make it less visible.

The biggest advantage of this filter, besides allowing my engine to run smooth at idle, is the constant availability of fresh air. Standing still at a traffic light or in a traffic jam and getting the car to move quickly is so much better than with an open airfilter. Sound wise: id did change a bit, but I could hardly hear a difference due to a sports exhaust and the PTP setup.
